A US helicopter has crashed north of Baghdad, with witnesses saying it was shot down by a rocket.
The fate of the helicopter's two-man crew is unclear, the United States military official said.

The military said it was investigating the incident, which took place at 0820 (0520 GMT) near the town of Mishahda.

A US reconnaissance helicopter crashed on Friday near the northern Iraqi city of Mosul, killing both its crew, in an apparent attack by insurgents.

Earlier this month, a US Black Hawk helicopter crashed near the rebel stronghold of Talafar in northern Iraq, killing eight passengers and four crew members aboard it.

Witnesses said smoke was visible over the scene of the latest crash site, which has been sealed off by US troops.
