Hamas wins huge majority

The Islamic group Hamas has won a huge majority in parliamentary elections, with Palestinian voters rejecting the long-time rule of the Fatah movement.

tho the politics are different and nothing compared to canada, just as the election in canada showed the people wanted change, so do the palestinian's. and needless to say, bush and israel are not happy!

Palestinian elections: Time for reflection

The result of the legislative elections in the Palestinian Authority are unexpected by all and unwanted by some. However, in a democratic process, you have to accept the result and get on with it, because it is the will of the people in a free and fair expression of their choice. The first gut reaction by many was that the victory of Hamas is a victory for terrorists and for terrorism ...

If it is illegal for Hamas to call for the destruction of the State of Israel, it is also illegal for Israel to occupy lands which do not belong to it under international law. ... While certain states insist on breaking these (the USA's illegal act of butchery in Iraq is a prime example) this does not render such breaches right and if Hamas lives up to its responsibilities, then Israel must either follow suit or pay the price for its arrogance and intransigence.

The election victory of Hamas is a vote against the endless dragging on of a peace process which can only begin when Israel pulls back to internationally recognised boundaries, which in turn neither Tel Aviv nor Washington appear to show any urgency whatsoever in overseeing.

The vote for Hamas is a vote against the policy of intransigence adopted by Israel and abetted by Washington. If demands are made on Hamas to obey the rules, then the same demands must be met by Israel.
