Iraq executes 13 militants
BAGHDAD, Iraq, March 9 (UPI) -- Iraq Thursday executed 13 people accused of participating in the insurgency in the first execution of militants.
A Cabinet statement announced the executions but released only one name: Shuqair Farid, a former policeman, the BBC reported.
Iraq's Transitional National Assembly adopted the death penalty in October, extending it to terrorists and "those who provoke, plan, finance and all those who enable terrorists to commit these crimes."
