Harper's best friend moves to Ottawa

John Weissenberger is among Prime Minister’s Harper’s closest friends and advisors. The two met when they were both students at the University of Calgary and have been confreres ever since. The Hill Times reports today that Weissenberger has decided to become part of official Ottawa — signing on as the Chief of Staff to Immigration Minister Diane Finley.

It’s not as though Weissenberger needed the work or anything. He was pursuing a very nice career in Calgary as a geologist for Husky Energy. And he was keeping his foot on the political pulse as a national director from Alberta for the Conservative Party of Canada’s governing council.

I think this is the first time I have ever seen someone complain about patronage appointments to politically exempt staff.

Have there ever been any that aren't somebody's friend?
