PMO's attack badly timed,
editorial from the London Free Press, March 8

The Prime Minister's Office is only compounding its own hypocrisy in the David Emerson affair when it lashes out at ethics commissioner Bernard Shapiro's inquiry into the former Liberal's defection to the Tories. ...

The government is already shopping around for a replacement for Shapiro, with former NDP leader Ed Broadbent being approached. He turned it down because of his wife's illness. ...

No one is saying Shapiro is without fault. His decisions have come under criticism from all parties. But for the PMO to attack him right after he announces an inquiry involving Harper, is hardly astute timing. So much for the independence of the office. So much for ethics. So much for accountability. The optics are awful.
