if polls are any indication

Survey: racism between Israeli Jews, Arabs
Mar. 22, 2006, UPI

A poll released by the Center for the Struggle Against Racism found 68 percent of Israeli Jews wouldn't live in the same building as Israeli Arabs.

Twenty-six percent had the opposite view, but 46 percent wouldn't allow an Arab into their homes, and 41 percent thought Jews and Arabs should be segregated in recreational areas.

The survey was conducted by Geocartographia and analyzed in the "Index of Racism Towards Arab Palestinian Citizens of the State of Israel," Ha'aretz reported.

The survey found racist attitudes increased among the more religious and among poorer Israeli Jews.

"Racism is becoming mainstream," said Bachar Ouda, director of the Center for the Struggle Against Racism. His group studies racially motivated incidents toward Israeli Arabs and attitudes of them by Israeli Jews.

It doesn't look at Israeli Arab attitudes or incidents directed at Israeli Jews.
