PNA to Appeal to UN Security Council for Halting Israeli Wave of Killings

GAZA, April 9, 2006 (IPC + Agencies) - - The Palestinian National Authority (PNA) declared on Saturday that it will go to the United Nations Security Council to obtain a resolution calling for ceasing the Israeli occupation aggression.

The spokesman for the presidency Nabil Abu Rudeina confirmed that the recent Israeli military escalation is very grave and will lead to serious consequences, adding that the Palestinian leadership will seek a resolution within the next hours to stop this escalation, which would lead to further deterioration and instability.

In a phone call with WAFA news agency, Abu Rudeina called on the international community and the Quartet Committee to swiftly interfere and exercise pressure on Israel to cease its aggression.

In the past weeks, Israeli forces stepped up its artillery bombardment and extrajudicial execution of Palestinians in Gaza Strip, causing many fatalities and casualties among resistance activists and civilians too.

Over the last 48 hours, the death toll in Gaza Strip rose to 15 Palestinians and dozens of injured, during different air raids and artillery bombardments throughout the Gaza Strip, the most recent of which was the death of Yasser Abu Jarad, 28, a taxi drvier, when Israeli artillery bombed his car while driving near a Palestinian security post near the town of Beit Hanoon, north of Gaza Strip.
